As of 1 July 2020, new speed limits have come into force within the greater Auckland area. In Auckland’s CBD most streets are now at 30 kph, down from 50 kph. The bigger story might just be the other suburbs. After all, managing to hit 50 kph in the Auckland CBD is hard to achieve in any case these days.
Auckland Transport has published an interactive map showing all 660 roads that have been changed. Areas affected range from Warkworth to Waiuku.
You can have a look at all the changes here: https://atgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=a13aa8469db642f283ef3ad241b71882
We have not heard if the changes have been put through the Uber app – we’d love to hear if they have got it sorted.
The changes are meant to increase road safety and will save petrol as well in the longer term. The question in the CBD is whether these lower speeds combined with shorter traffic light cycles will make driving even more difficult in the CBD.
One thing that hasn’t changed is driving in or stopping in Bus Lanes – be sure to steer clear of them if they are within operating hours or are 24/7 Bus Lanes. The infringement is $150, and we want you to earn money – not give it to Auckland Transport!
Drive safely!
